UTStarcom Presents at the SoftBank World 2016 Exhibition and Conference and Announces Release of SyncRing Synchronization Solution

HONG KONG AND TOKYO, July 25, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UTStarcom (NASDAQ:UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, participated in the SoftBank World 2016 Exhibition and Conference in Tokyo, Japan on 21-22 July 2016. The Company displayed the latest developments in its broadband and optical network infrastructure technology, including the newest SyncRing product family, and presented its view on development of mobile backhaul transport infrastructure in view of current and emerging market trends.

UTStarcom participated as a Diamond sponsor of the event. Its delegation was lead by Mr. Tim Ti, UTStarcom's Chief Executive Officer, and included key management team members and representatives of its regional office in Japan.

Mr. Tim Ti, UTStarcom's Chief Executive Officer, stated, "SoftBank World is a unique event that brings together visionaries and industry leaders to discuss and showcase emerging technologies that are going to shape the future of telecom industry and every aspect of people’s lives.  There is no doubt that telecommunication industry is going to play a key role in this transformation, telecommunications technologies being an important enabler of IoT, M2M, Cloud computing and other sophisticated applications yet to emerge. As a leading infrastructure provider, UTStarcom is in position today to provide our customers with right tools for this migration into the hyperconnected world of tomorrow.”

Mr. Steven Chen, Vice President, Product and Technology, presented Company’s view on evolution of transport network infrastructure for mobile backhaul in a presentation titled "Optical Transport for LTE-A/5G Evolution.” Mr. Steven Chen stated: “Modern packet-switched optical networks can provide an excellent solution for LTE/LTE+ backhaul networks in terms of scalability, capacity, synchronization accuracy, overall feature set. Emerging 5G technology makes it more challenging with its requirements for greater network agility, flexibility, significantly improved TCO, much lower latency, much higher reliability and with its potentially high reliance upon SDN/NFV technologies. UTStarcom believes that a next generation 5G transport solution should be based on a combination of packet-switched Carrier Ethernet and WDM, support both L2 and L3 functions, provide over-the-net synchronization, implement additional layers of resiliency, and most importantly be tightly integrated with SDN to provide required level of automation, flexibility, and control.”

In line with its strategy to provide a complete future-proof mobile backhaul solution, the Company presented its newest SyncRing time/frequency synchronization solution and displayed the SyncRing product line including Grand Masters and a Boundary Clock switch. Hereby, SyncRing product line is officially released and made available for purchase to the Company’s customers worldwide.

Mr. Tim Ti said: “The explosive mobile data traffic growth has turned mobile backhaul into one of the most demanded solutions.  At the same time the increasing complexity of mobile technologies has made mobile backhaul one of the most challenging applications for optical transport network infrastructure, driving its fast evolution. “

This release of our high-precision synchronization solution is yet another important milestone that – together with 100GE support as well as SDN-based L3 and BoD features announced earlier – helps us to provide to our customers a comprehensive future-proof mobile backhaul solution. The SyncRing products help transport infrastructure effortlessly meet stringent synchronization accuracy requirements of LTE/LTE-A, as well as to meet lower TCO targets that are especially critical for swiftly growing small cell deployments segment. We expect the SyncRing solution to help us further strengthen our position in mobile backhaul market in Japan and globally.”

Along with SyncRing introduction, UTStarcom's exhibit showcased some more of the Company’s latest prospective developments: a range of high-performance data center switches enabling leaf-spine architecture, and Next Generation CPE products including compact Carrier Ethernet CPEs optimized for Enterprise and mobile backhaul applications, as well as an innovative intelligent customer’s edge product – Virtual Broadband Gateway (VBG) developed by UTStarcom’s subsidiary Virtual Gateway Labs, Inc.

SyncRing Overview
