UTStarcom Announces Key Global Customer Engagement Events

HONG KONG, March 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UTStarcom (NASDAQ: UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, has begun to engage more directly with prospective customers and the global network technology community following a year in which it launched several innovative products, including within its flagship line of packet optical transport products based on MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet.

The Company has stepped up its presence at major industry events worldwide in 2014 to show how its innovations will help carriers and service providers compete for customers by offering a wider array of entertainment content, news, video, and mobile offerings at a higher quality of service.

"These events are important opportunities to show the industry our ability to bring innovative solutions to market," commented Mr. William Wong, UTStarcom's Chief Executive Officer. "We look forward to working with a growing number of telecom carriers and service providers worldwide to improve network efficiency and help them offer the vast array of entertainment options, programming features, and mobility that consumers demand via significantly more simplified operations and reduced cost."

Key Global Trade Show Participation

In January, UTStarcom attracted nearly 15,000 visitors to its exhibition at Convergence India, a widely attended information and communications technology conference in South Asia. The exhibition included seminars on Software Defined Network (SDN) technology, a revolutionary industry advancement that UTStarcom is incorporating into its packet optical transport solutions. The Company's presentations, titled "Enable Infrastructure to be a Cloud and beyond the Clouds," were attended by executives from India's tier-one carriers and telecom Industry champions in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the Maldives.

UTStarcom will next exhibit its suite of broadband infrastructure products at the Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) in San Francisco in March. On display will be its packet optical transport products, FTTX technology, and wireless broadband technology coupled with UTStarcom's in-house carrier grade SDN platform. The OFC is a prestigious annual conference that attracts technology executives across the cable television, broadband, and wireless telecommunications fields. That will be an important step into the United States where UTStarcom is planning a marketing and sales drive this year.

Growing Global Customer Base

In 2013, in addition to continuously growing and expanding business with existing customers, UTStarcom also won several sizable customers worldwide, including top telecom carriers in both Taiwan and Brazil and the largest wireless operator in Indonesia. Southeast Asia is already a large and growing market for UTStarcom. The Company has cumulatively achieved 35% share of the broadband infrastructure market in India.

The Company will continue to commit to existing customers, diversify its customer base, and enter new markets by promoting its global expertise and deployments of suite of its broadband products.

Strong Product Pipeline

UTStarcom's global effort to engage prospective customers follows a year in which it announced several innovations to its broadband offerings, including its market-leading TN series packet optical transport product line and network management system.

The new product offerings embody the Company's vision of "Simple Network, Simple Operation" to make it easier for telecom carriers and Internet operators worldwide to launch new services quickly and reduce costs significantly while improving network stability and performance level.

"We are effectively helping customers stay competitive in an 'on demand' world where people connect to each other and access entertainment, videos, news, and other information whenever they want and on a range of devices, both mobile and fixed," continued Mr. Wong. "We are looking forward to ongoing success in this area in the many markets we are targeting around the world."
